gokart makes a loud pops at take off

ok I have a live axe Murray explorer. when the kids take off I hear this loud pop. there is no way that I can see to adjust the slack out of the chain. the axle is fixed. the secondary drive shaft is fixed. there is no way to move either sprockets forward or back. but I have about two inches of play in the chain (up and down direction). how do I tighten this chain? is this pop related to the chain?

as you can see the secondary drive shaft is welded to the frame. this limits the movement to left or right

If the Chain is too loose you may need to remove a link. But it looks like it would be to short then. Maybe replace a link with a half link? I don't think that's your pop sound tho.

yes i would think so you need a spring tensioner or at least adjustable

thats enough slack to cause a popping

That loud pop could be your driver sprocket skipping inside the chain! When a chain gets that loose worn sprockets are next or the cause.
Is either one pointed now ? I'd be looking for some chain & sprockets
