Harbor Freight Ghost Engine

#3
I just got another 25% off coupon from Harbor Freight. I don't see anything saying I can't use it towards a ghost predator engine.

The current price for the engine is $329.99

With the coupon that would make the price $247.49

Sounds like a pretty-decent deal doesn't it?

Here's another option, if you are looking for another engine, more cc, jus add a flywheel.

I pulled the trigger today and ordered the Ducar 224.

Randy says it comes with a cast cam gear, not like the predator 224 that comes with a plastic cam gear.

I'll tear it down and check the clearances before I fire it up.

So it does not look like a flywheel is included "The standard Ducar 224cc does not come equipped with a flywheel. Flywheels we suggest for this engine include the DC-PVL-FW and the ARC-6689". What are you planning on doing for a flywheel?

I've got a pvl flywheel from a Ducar 212.

Some customers want to run the head light, so I trade a stock flywheel and lighting coils for thier pvl flywheel.

Of coarse they gotta throw in some $ for me to change it out and set ignition timing.

I've gotta a cast aluminum from a tilly 212r also.

Does it have the internal governor or not? It looks like it does.
The Ducar 224 has no governor.

I'm tearing it down now checking bolt torq and clearances. So far, it's a quality box engine, but I expect that from Ducar.

I've torn down 4 or 5 NEW Ducar 212's, and they are so consistent, there's no reason for me to open them up for clearance checks or bolt torq for that matter.

That's one hell of a useful post; a succinct explanation of the quality you get and photos to prove it, no less.

Here's some more pics.

I didn't pull the rod and piston for piston to cylinder clearance and ring ends gaps.

This 1 is sold.

Crank is clearanced for compression release and exhaust lobe.
I'm add a .005" cam shim between block and cam, jus for peace of mind.

It should be around 8.6- 8.7:1 compression ratio.

Cam lift is .222- .223" both intake and exhaust

Rod bolt torq was 11-12ft/lbs.

Crank endplay at .010"

Head hasket thickness .0415"

head bolt torq 19-20 ft/lbs

side cover bolt torq, 17-18 ft/lbs

This is a very good quality engine. This would be cheaper then refreshing a 196 or any 212.

It has the clone crank shaft taper, so any clone flywheel will fit.

crank big end is same as any clone crank, i didnt check wrist pin size, maybe the next 1 i can.

Any questions, jus ask.
