How can I measure spring install height

Hello, I will be installing 26lbs springs in a non hemi predator and would like to know how can I measure the spring install height without any special tools? Thanks

you put the vavle in then the retainer but no spring, then pull up on the retainer put the end of the machinist ruler flat on the spring seat then measure to the underneath of the spring retainer, that distance will be the install height. you want a 6" machinist ruler. 6 Inch Rulers 300/1 6-inch Flex Precision Stainless Steel Ruler Chrome | eBay
