Old Briggs & Stratton

Look closely at the #'s stamped on the carbburetor side of this housing, under the silver & black sticker. These #'s are stamped in the metal , not part of sticker. Model # is first. Then a Type #. Then a Code# . The first two #'s of the code,is the year. Will look something like this. 80100 0168-01 59020207 Could be as old as 1959. If it has oil bath air filter, at least 50 years old. Mod-80100 Type-0168-01 Code-59020207 straight across like this.

I THOUGHT THIS WAS A COOL ENGINE COVER I LIKE THE STAMPED B/S ON THE COVER . HOW OLD IS IT?
they used that style cover from 1958 until 1961 by 1962 they changed to the smooth cover.1955 through 1957 the briggs letters were on the left side next to the pull start.1955 or 56 was the first year for the aluminum block ,briggs 8B and 6B .in 1958 they changed to the 80000 series engine. some of the changes were ,the cast iron fly wheel instead of cast aluminium.larger valves and ports ,introduction of steel lined bore.and better balance of crankshaft to cut vibration.
