New project bike! Tule Trooper

#1
Yes I am somewhat erect! Finally got one of these to add to my goat herd.
Bought from the original owner for some cash and a passenger side front fender for a 53 chevy (got lucky that his 53 was in the background of his craigslist pic and I had the part he needed.)
Only damage I can see is the throttle grip is broken and the front bars have been bent in its life but are still usable, and the few scratches and dings from normal use.
Bike has a near mint original seat, decent original decal, motor turns nice and smooth, and the tires are holding air and in good shape. And he threw in what looks like some sort of heald tryke front end to.
This one shouldnt take much work as its in such nice original shape that I dont intend on the full resto. I like to keep a clean originals that have survived in that condition, and I think this one applies.

Very good find and knowing the history is good too. In my collection I now have 4 of the James 2 speed gear boxes. One on a trooper and two other bikes have the box and one spare from a trooper. Good things happen in time so now it's your turn LOL

I'd been hoping to come across one of these for a reasonable price for a while. So i was pretty stoked when i got it.

Steve, any idea what the front end is for?? Looks like a super tryke, but it doesnt have shocks? Did the heald industrial have no shocks up front? Figure you might know since you have three wheel stuff.

Hi Boondocks1953 : Well it for sure is from a Montgomery Wards Trike they have the bolt together frame. they come so far three ways that we know of the T-555 like Gumpit has is a ZCQ 13982B Stanard model and the model ZCQ 13984A the deluxe one with the fiberglass body. one you have the front section for with that big front wheel is the ZCQ 13995A
The one I have is the ZCQ 5709A and it has the small front wheel and does not separate in half. Gut has full front and rear suspension and came with a Single cylinder Kokler 2 stroke engine and a roll cage with a high mount fuel tank.
I am sure this has some value so hang on to it.

PIR swapmeet

I went to the PIR swapmeet last year, did lots of walking. Is it okay to bring an old trailbike or mini to ride around on? Or do you have to have a table or booth? If I can bring one, I'll bring one of my odd ball rides, maybe one of the diesels.

Boondocks1953: Thanks for the offer but I would not need a big wheel front end for any of my project trikes. Right now there is so many projects I installed a ( take a number machine ) at the door. LOL

DZL,

I know PIR will let you bring in a pedal power bike for sure, I would have to check if they let the public bring in motorized. They do not have a problem whatsoever with the vendors riding around on minibikes so I dont think they would hassle you, hook a wagon to the back and call it a parts hauler and I'm sure you would be fine.
Now over at Meadows is a different story, lots of rules over there (foot traffic only! no motorcan be running whatsoever! no bicycles! not even a skateboard!) Makes for some pretty sore feet because you probably put in about 5 miles or more a day walking over there for 3 to 4 days to see it all:doah:
Thats why we get a booth at pir, they are way cooler, you get to camp there so no motel (more money for spending...and for blowing on beers and girls at union jacks, we always tear that place up at least once!) you can BBQ, drink beer, whatever. Still more stuff at meadows but pir has grown alot each year. Only down side to PIR is if it rains (which is almost a gaurantee) its a mud pit.

swap meet

When and where is Meadows? I'd like to attend anything close.
Portland meadows convention center right next to PIR both are the same weekend April 7th thru 11th PIR and April 8th thru 11th at portland meadows. If your on your mini bring a cable lock. go to pir first and then ride up to meadows and lock your bike to the fence by the gate. or you can take your bike back to your car and they have free buses running a loop to both sites you can catch at any of the gates. We buy vendor passes to both to get in early on the set up days. If you show up on the vendor set up day for meadows you can buy a weekend pass for a discount, otherwise you must pay everyday.

So I fired up the trooper today and man it runs out sweet!
Did not have the new throttle yet but I couldnt resist taking it down the street for a ride. I just held the cable in my hand and slid it to excelerate. Note to self should have given the brakes a little better inspection before I took off:doah:
These big ole boys dont exactly stop flintstones style at idle like a mini :scared:but what the heck. i guess i could have just rode circles till it ran out of gas!
This is my first with the gear box and man is that a sweet option! I would definately pick up another one of these if the oprotunity presents itself.
