Powell Fork~Damaged~SoCal Pickup

Here is an old Powell front fork.
The upper triple-tree has some metal hacksawed off,
and the upper bearing is damaged and needs replacing.

......I guess you'd say they're decent, unless the fact
that the axle holes are opened up to 1/2" is bad:

The 1/2" holes are a little scary, not sure how you fix that, got any ideas?? Maybe send them with George tomorrow, or bring them if your coming, let's see if i could use them. I really need those 2 legs!!

...Small bushings like fork neck bushings would do the trick.
George won't tell me what the original fork leg axle hole diameter is.

...Thanks, I went into George's garage and saw the axle bolt head was 9/16", so I assumed it was 3/8".

...The fork is headed to "Hell On Wheels" (6/11/2011) with g3, so MBP can :drool: .

The hole is easy to fix, clamp a piece of aluminum on the back side and weld the hole up the weld will not stick to the aluminum but will allow a backing to weld to. Then center and re drill.. I will have to look I think I have some pics for plugging holes on a old car thread...

Here is a example of plugging I did on a GM frame with aluminum backing, after the weld is done the aluminum just pops off and gives a backing for a clean weld and no distortion. After welding clean it and drill the hole needed.
