TX do you use loose sand when lost foam casting? no sticky green sand?
sticky green sand is for when you are casting something you have to make a mold of and then remove the item and pour into the mold.
The lost foam casting only requires that your sand be dry and super fine so it doesnt leave to much impression on the surface of your pour.
Make an item out of the pink or blue wall foam bought at lowes and home depot etc (anything from the craft store doesnt melt to swell, i tried them all), then glue the pieces together using contact cement to get whatever size you want to start with. and then carve whatever you want to duplicate in aluminum, bury it in the sand and make sure to have a sprue going to the surface of the sand for pouring into and also venting of hot gasses.
