Throttle linkage for 3.5 hp briggs

#1
I put a 3.5hp briggs from an edger on my doodlebug. I attached the bike's throttle cable to the same little arm that the edger throttle was attaced to, but I think I'm doing something wrong. This pic is as good as I could take with my phone. I think my carb is like the one in this thread.

It seems like I get full throttle, or nothing. There's nothing in between. Thanks.

I did add a spring that pulls the arm back down to idle.

I think my problem has something to do with the governor, which chooses how much gas to give it, or something. I don't know.

I talked to a friend, and he said I need to ignore all the stuff that goes to the governor, and go directly to the ... it may be called the shaft throttle. It's like part 97 in this diagram. Although that carb is slightly different.

If it's all hooked up like they had it and you can see that it tries to work, then yes your governor spring probably needs more tension.. It looks like you might have quite a bit of travel left in the cable at the carb.. you might just be able to pull the cable out farther..

OR if that fails and it wants to always idle high, and still not really rip, you can move the spring farther up on the to the parts it hooks to, giving your self more leverage over the spring, and being able to pull harder on it..
