Valve grinding tool

#1
Well I inquired about extended length lifters and how you go about filing them down, and korndog was kind enough to link me to the do-it-yourself tool. It was very simple, but they wanted almost 40 bucks for it plus another 15 for shipping! So, I went to the shop at work and made my own.

It's a piece of 1" thick barstock. I drilled a 1/4" hole through it for the lifter, which fits perfect. I used a machinist level, accurate to .0005" per foot, so you better believe that hole is in there STRAIGHT! I drilled a 3/16" hole through the side, then tapped it to 1/4"-20. That's where you put the set screw in to hold the lifter where you want it.

Basically, you determine how much you need ground off, use your feeler gauge to make that much of the lifter stick through, lock it in with the set screw, then run the whole block over a file until the lifter is ground flush with the block.

$55, I don't think so!
