Veterans Day 2012

I'd like to see our members post up their service history?
Maybe Branch and Rank and any other details they'd like to share. I'm sure we have a glorious group of patriotic heroes in OldMiniBikes.

And I for one say "THANK YOU" for all you've done!

This also includes all members from outside the USA as well.
Don't be shy, you're all to be saluted!

Thanks to all who have served. It makes us truly a great nation. The date is important to my family since it is the day my Dad was discharged from the Army 67 yrs ago. He and Mom still live by themselves on their farm at the age of 95 and 91. She called this morning and asked if we would pick them up for church since we had a dusting of snow last night! A couple of pics will show them sitting in the Veterans Memorial in our little town of Fertile and also him doing what he still loves best......being out and about. Veterans Day should be a special day for all of us, and even more so for the ones that serve or have served.

Thanks Peekster for the kind words. For 95 he is pretty good shape except his eyesight. When he gets a ride to town in the morning, he still enjoys shaking dice for coffee with the young guys. (65 - 80 year olds) He, like so many other vets who came back home from war, did not talk about things until 6 or 7 yrs ago. It was about that time when he opened up to me in a very guarded way. All the years of night sweats and bad dreams did not go away, but the fact that he could talk a little bit to us, has helped him a lot and we feel lucky to have the chance to hear those stories from him. So many families never get or got that chance, and yet I respect any vet who chooses not to talk about their experiences. I feel they earned that right if they so choose. In the first picture I posted where he and mom are sitting on the bench, it is a bench that I and my sisters bought for the veterans memorial. On it is the Bible verse that says "Greater lover hath no man, than a man lays down his life for his friend". Thank a vet not only today, but keep it in our minds always.
