Briggs 5 hp flywheel

This is a picture of the starter clutch on my briggs 5hp. I have no clue how it comes off. The engine code for parts list is 130232-3194-01.

Unscrews in a counter clock-wise direction. No different than a nut.
A special wrench is made that aids in removal but is not necessary.

Take out the spark plug and stuff some rope into the chamber to stop the flywheel from rotating. Then place the open end of a wrench on one of the raised edges and smack it with a hammer. Like Lawn-Boy said, its just a big nut that also serves as the starter ratchet.

there is a special tool but ill just use a hammer tap it loose counter clockwise

It's really easy to break the hub by hitting it w/a hammer. You can also bust fins off the flywheel if your aim isn't just right. The correct tool is cheap and effective. There are lots of them listed on e-bay. Here's one now...

a couple of good shot on nthe bigger pieces counterclockwise with a hammmer and screwdrive shoutld get it off, be carefull when it comes off there is a key for the timing, have fun putting the starter clutch back together.
