cleaning gas tank question

New guy on this site and I need to know how to clean rust from a steel gas tank. I picked up this Sears / Roper as is last spring, any idea on the year? Also is that Clinton motor correct for this bike?

I have had great luck by putting small screws, washers bolts and some brake fluid in the tank and shaking it up,down and all around for approx 15to 20min depending on the rust.Or put it in a paint shaker snugly and run it for about 10min rinsing with fresh brake fluid a couple times I hope this helps:thumbsup:

Brake fluid is residue is ok with gas/carb?

I usually give the tank a final rinse with acetone sice it evaporates and is compatible with gas anyway and it gets any old varnished gas too.

My final rinse was always parts cleaner, after the brake fluid, I guess thats ok to , it evaporates pretty good:smile:

The Clinton engine is not original, it would have had a Sears engine made by Tecumseh.
