Honda Powered DB30 - towing an airplane!

#1
Had a fly-in at our local airport this am, we are just finishing re-installing the engine on our 1938 Piper Cub and didn't quite have it finished in time for the show. Our plane is based on the other side of the airport so we used the DB30 as a aircraft tug to tow the plane down to the show. The 6.5hp Honda had no problems towing the plane....the centrifugal clutch on the other hand didn't hold up, it smoked it! I need to find a TAV2 to install on this baby.

Here's a video of the mini towing the plane.

Im almost 100% sure that you will rip every belt you put on that TAV2 if your towing a plane. Many people i've heard from w/ TAV's have thrown at least 1 belt. I saw a vid of one guy blowing through a belt at like 50mph, didnt look fun! And to think, that was towing a single person, not a plane .

Im sure a dual (or even tripple) disk will do great for this kind of application. Sure, its off/on operation but if the drum clutch even pulled it for a while I think a dual disk could handle the job.
