Most the older HS50 engines I have all have threads in the exhaust, The HSSK50 snowking engines that I have that are newer engines do not have the threads in the exhaust port.
Mufflers used to be threaded and had a thin lock nut. Screw the muffler in place and then jam the nut against the block to hold it tight. Worked quite well.

I mean most engines of this size were 1/2" pipe threads but my engine has the huge 3/4" pipe threads. I just don't know what was more common, This is the only HS50 I ever had.
HS50 should be a 3/4 NPT thread size if it is threaded. The snowking engines (HSSK50)are the same with out the threads. I run a 1 1/8 Straight pipe on my HS50 and theres no restriction on the exhaust exiting out from the engine block. And they sound real good after porting them out.
