Manco Wheel Restoration

#1
Any suggestions on the best way to restore the original finish to a 6" Manco wheel?

These are the standard split-half cast aluminum variety as used on most Arctic Cat models and many, many others. 40 years of grime and oxidation has left them gray and dirty. Were they bright when new or dull cast?

Media blast? Vibe bowl? Degreaser and leave as-is?

All my aluminum wheels I have media blasted and sprayed with clear. Gives a nice finish.

Yeah, not a Manco wheel, but you get the idea.

I'm curious about this too. I thought about polishing the lip on my Manco front wheel, not sure if it will look the way I think it will lol.

What type of media do you guys recommend? I'm assuming silica is too destructive but I don't want to buy a $50 bag of something to do 6 wheels. I have access to a small gravity feed gun.

Don't use silica sand, or play sand. Silicosis is bad. Similar to asbestos in what it does to your lungs.

I like glass bead on low pressure. Walnut shells work too.
