One of my favorite 2 stroke engine rebuild videos

I think it's funny cause it runs on gas and sounds like farts.
That is a home made hit and miss.
Probably an old compressor.

Lots of work that engine that deserves a little appreciation...

Here is another compressor that becomes an engine.
My Chum Mr. Pattel manufactures these in Rajkot city.

Then you find a middle man and order the engine retrofit kit and in an afternoon your compressor becomes a 1930s Lister CS 8/1 diesel engine...
ANd there is nothing the EPA can do to stop you because this is all perfectly legal..

I have much respect for homemade engine builders and I apologize if I offended anyone. It is something that I have not been able to do, mostly due to a lack of proper tools.

Although I have less than a basic understanding of how hit & miss engines are built, I do believe that this engine does not produce enough power to do any real world work. It might make a half decent generator, but even a generator requires a certain amount of torque & hp to operate properly.

So if you build or modify something to function as an engine, and if this engine doesn't produce enough power to do any work....what exactly have you made. I would say that it qualifies more as a "model" engine since model engines are mostly for display and sometimes work with accessories to handle very light loads of work, mostly for viewing pleasure.

Every engine I've ever built can and will produce some type of work. I've actually avoided rebuilding certain types of engines because they either had low HP ratings or I knew that I would not be able to find something to use them for.

You're not offending me or anyone else relax.

Hit and miss goes back too the early days of gas engines on the farm.
the governor shut the ignition down back then because the first carbs were not very effective at running under different loads.

My Chum Atul builds replica diesel engines in India that are shipped here as compressors to get around the EPA rules.
Some people find the sound of a slow running engine almost like music.
I am one of them....

This is not hit and miss.
Just a vintage 5/1 doing its thing a little faster than I would be comfortable with ( rated for 600 rpm, 5 hp 1 cylinder )...
the advantage is it runs so slow and makes power at 650 rpm and because the wear at the speed is so little it can run for decades between rebuilds.

Here is a modern engine evolved from it.
A 20/1 3.5 litre monster running 1000 rpm ( redesign but a fellow named Gupta at Satyajet works in India in the early 60s using a lister block and a head he cloned from a Petter. SEE!!!! clones are nothing new)

This is a half breed.
It started life as a Steam engine and was converted for oil field use to burn.... OIL lol.

This is a semi diesel the first step to practical diesel like the Lister CS in Wales at a museum ( and things are about to go very wrong )
It runs like a diesel but can't start cold so they use a torch to get it hot.

ANd this old girl is true hit and miss....

i was wondering if the k92 means anything? for example 9.2hp...........? but that may sound little high?
to bad the blocks are little different then the chain saws. i could of been picking up tons of them homelite chainsaws

I did some research and the "92" is for its 92cc displacement.

I also did research on "Brown" carburetors and they were able to patent there diaphragm carburetors shortly after Tillotson due to designing a carburetor body which could be drilled for a Horizontal or Vertical throttle shaft. These carburetors also had 2 pairs of Hi & Low fuel passages to work with either throttle shaft configurations. Very cool !!!
