Stupid Carb Removing Question

#1
I have an old Tec 5hp (not sure of the model off hand). The question I have is what is the trick to getting the carb off. There is a spacer between the carb and block, with two screws holding it to the carb and two holding it to the engine. The screw heads are partially covered by the carb and not much room for a wrench on the nuts. I ended up chiseling the nuts off but was wondering if there a better or easier way. This may sound confusing but if you had this problem then you know what I'm talking about.

Yep. The nuts were spinning with no way to hold the screws since the heads were hidden. Just split the nuts with a small chisel and hammer, sounds bad but but didn't damage anything.
