I found a nice West Bend 820 under the guise of a paratrooper water pump.
It appears to be in pretty good shape, has good compression. It has a specialized spark arrestor muffler that bears the name of the pump manufacturer, Gorham Rupp. I should really find a Rupp trail bike to put it on.The guy I bought it from didn't have a clue of what he had.
I suspect it won't be pumping much more water.

I actualy think it is a very interesting find as it is that pump may have been is service fighting fires hence the red paint I would restore it as it is
.
But if you decide to use it for a mini that would be cool to:scooter:

GR is still around in the pumping buisness.

Red pump with a stinky motor is the international symbol for fire pump lol.....

Oh BTW if you want a loop hole to buy sell and manufacture engines like the 820 paint them red...
The EPA has exempted all fire fighting engines from the current off road emission regulations....

What you have there dates from the late 60s or 70s ( before the Marine div of Chrysler was sold off last time they went tits up )

Maybe it is used to purge residual water from the pump after you're done pumping or it could be routed through a venturi and it helps create suction in the pump until it gets it's prime

It looks like the exhaust is used to pressurize a grease fitting. The old pumps had a packing that had to be greased often to keep them from leaking. The round fitting about the size if a skoal can is a grease cup with a screw on lid. You fill this with grease and the exhaust pressure pushes it into the packing.
