how often should i clean the air filter?

i was riding my doodlebug today and when i reach full speed it starts to cut out and sounds like the engine is going to stall so i put new gas in it thinking it was bad gas and it did it again, my bike is only a couple days old, i got it for christmas so i was wondering if maybe the air filter is dirty, i weigh 98 pounds so i know its not because i weigh too much so if you have any ideas please answer thanks a lot

i'd put money on it not being a dirty air filter. i doubt you'll ever even need to really clean it.

i'd start out by making sure there isn't any crap that could be clogging up the jets in the carb. i had stuff in the pilot jet of my new Mikuni after maybe 20 minutes of riding.
