Confused? Don't be. I can relate to you as I was quite the little monster growing up myself. Lot's of projects. Requested & received my first work bench @ 11 yrs old. Took everything apart, most went back together.

Have fun riding today. I do a weekend ritual and ride the Puma through the neighborhood, across the riding field and between some back streets past some apartments, down a utility easement to a small strip mall with a good donut shop there and pick up breakfast. Today there will also be a run the other direction to Kroger market for coffee first.

The bracket I put on the exhaust pipe already cracked. Completely broken. Used 1/8" x 3/4" mild steel. I ordered some 1/4" x 1" mild steel to build another from. Meanwhile, I'll probably just put a large stainless steel hose clamp around it for this morning's run. haha

oh i get it  im slow. today riding we tried to go through to the convenience store and get some drinks. but so many of the paths are blocked off with trees 2 foot around. and since they are mostly no longer used by the culbro company they wont clear the trails...

also his go kart acceleration is CRAP and clutch is burnt out. ill give him the jackshaft off my warrior...

so about halfway through riding i hit a bump and my engine got louder. silencer broke off :eek:hmy:

Hope you have a good day of riding, it's beautiful out there

it was great! the puddles were still cold though and i got soaked.

I got the flip and handlebar holder out last night to take on our ride this AM, too bad I left them both sitting on the counter

Oh well, was still a fun day, broke the kart and my bike (his kart a lot worse)

haha we only broke my silencer off. ill weld it better later.

look what this lucky boy got for free today. 15.5 kohler runs mint. i want to get a plow for it and start a snow removal business this winter.

You are going to need tire chains and a rear weight box too
i think im gonna just turn it into a go kart instead. and buy a used snowblower and make a business (might not though its kinda late...)

tomorrow im picking up another free go kart! it has a verical shaft tecumseh, 3 speed tranny, chain drive, based off of a vintage cub cadet. SCORE

baja:

messin around with valve springs. 6.5 clone springs are some of the weakest springs ive pulled from engines. found some OHV briggs springs that are slightly stiffer. im gonna pop them in tomorrow and see how much more rev's i get. i also have super thick springs from a 8hp briggs flathead but they wont even compress enough to fit on the valve stem haha. eventually ill get 18lb springs made for the clone.

the OHV briggs spring is on the left, 6.5 clone spring is on the right.

i got another free toy today! its hilarious to ride around on

now heres the story, the above^^ caught fire (testing spark, didnt know gas tank had hole, leaked gas all over engine, test spark, boom.) i used the fire extinguisher (flames were at least as tall as me) and did what i was DYING to do for over a year.

first i unscrewed the spout and drained all that baby powder stuff.

then i cut notches, probably didnt need to. i learned a hose clamp wont crimp this to a pipe.

drilled a 1" hole in the bottom

drilled through the top and actually bolted it through to the straight pipe. i was out of ideas so it works...

the old (a week ago i spent HOURS) and new

wow i have a lot of crap

How does the canister work? Have you considered running a pipe through the center and drilling lots of holes in the pipe? It would probably flow better and not be much if any louder.

Years ago they would build car mufflers like that and around the outside put a layer of fiberglass similar to insulation - they were called "Glass Packs". I think they have done away with using fiberglass in the same way as they have done away with asbestos.

Fiberglass was also used inside speaker cabinets as a damping media and is not anymore.

I think today the straight through type silencers are referred to as "Resonators". Same idea, not sure what, if any stuffing is inside the new type "Resonators" - never opened one up.

i have not run this yet because it was 10pm when i finished it and 30 degrees out. i hit my hand against the flange and it makes a deep WOB- kinda like dubstep

i have done this way with a spray paint can before (not the one i did last week) and it makes a deeper, more throaty and echo noise than doing the pipe all the way through the can and blocking the end off, and making lots of holes. (thats what i did last week)

i cant wait to hear it run. gives me a reason to get up early tomorrow. i hope that i can take my friend riding tomorrow (he owns a honda XR100R) you see it in the last pic.

Forgot to mention - glad you didn't get hurt with the fire. Dangerous stuff - be careful sir.

With the muffler, I'm not talking blocking the end off. Straight through, with holes drilled in it and the can around the holes. Just a straight through pipe with holes and a can around it.

i never thought of doing it that way. maybe i should give it a try! i just need a longer tube to add onto the straight pipe, then the extinguisher will slide onto it.. i always thought it wouldnt do anything though, just go straight through and not make a difference. tomorrow ill start it and see what it sounds like, and go from there! it just bolts onto the straight pipe, because its aluminum i cant weld it.

bad news, yesterday i was out riding and my friend (who has YZ125) wanted to ride my baja so i said SURE. i had fun on that YZ125. then when i met up with the baja again my friend scott was on it and the engine would not turn over.....:scared:

i unscrewed the oil dipstick and a lot of THIN oil came out. (new sae30 that morning) so i tried turning over the engine with no oil plug. it cranked and slowly got looser.

let some of the oil out and then put the plug back and pulled a lot of times with no choke (engine VERY HOT) then tried choke and about 10 pulls later it slowly came back to life. pumped out a ton of blue smoke and had very little compression. i let it idle for a little but then the smoke slowly went away and the horsepower slowly came back.

any ideas to what happened? should i be worried?

anyways- heres the video.

No idea. Wondering why it would get hot. Check everything, clogged cooling fins with mud, dirt, etc. If the oil broke down it would get hot. Sustained overload could cause it.

What was the ambient temperature?

I was under the impression this had been brought up before.
The spring you want are for the G200.
Or put another way the Springs from the 5hp G200 flat head of the 1970s and 1980s fit.
These are the springs people call yellow springs.
These are the 18 pound springs.

These G200 springs are the ones you want.

Also stiffer springs on stock clone valve train components often lead to failure.
This if it happens give no second chances.
